I am suggesting a 500GB WD or Seagate HDD to him @ 2.5k approx. If you have a better suggestion or a specific model suggestion, please post |

afaik, 945GC chipset supports sata and sata2. Why don't you just check the spec sheet in the motherboard manual and what's the exact model number?
also, go for WD 500Gb for now.

From what I read, the SATA2 HDD will work with the motherboard
WD is not in stock - he asked in 5-6 different shops (in Lucknow). And the Seagate 500 GB one is available for Rs 3300! Samsung 500 GB is around 3000. Sounds very expensive, but he may not have any other option |

Even if the board doesn't supports SATA2 the HDD should work (though in SATA 1) mode when plugged in the mobo.
