Question Help me solve this strange problem

My friend owns a HP Pavilion a1509in Desktop PC(View specifications) which he bought 2.5 years ago.

Last week, his powersupply got fried and so he bought a new Colorsit 450W SMPS for Rs.500.

His computer ran fine using the new power supply for one day.

The next day, while doing a Windows XP disk scan, there was a powercut. When the power came back on, he is unable to turn on his PC ever since.

He says that his mouse, keyboard, DVD writer has power(the caps lock, num lock light is on, the red light is on under the mouse, the activity led on DVD writer is visible) but whenever he presses the Power button on his cabinet, nothing is displayed on screen(not even the BIOS info). The screen remains blank.

I thought that maybe his monitor had died. So I asked him to disconnect the video adapter from the MB and turn the monitor on. And quite surprisingly, the "No Video Signal" message was displayed on screen.

I now think that maybe something has happened to the onboard video chip.

What do you guys think?

Thumbs up Re: Help me solve this strange problem

Nothing happened to his video chip. Try this.
Remove RAMs (b/w how many RAMs does he use?) and put them in different slots.
Check power cable/data cable in cabinet if anything is left loose.
then
remove MOBO battery and put again...

I don't think its any mobo probs, it happens with monitors sometimes....

He is a total n00b and is fearful of opening the cabinet.

He depends on the person who repairs his PC too much. That person installed the SMPS but after that he has fallen sick and has been unable to come to visit his house and so my friends PC is lying there untouched.

Until he comes or I visit my friend's house, no one will be able to know if doing the above solves his problem or not.

P.S: If it a problem with RAM, wont there be the warning beeps from the motherboard???

I specifically mentioned that my friend has a HP Pavilion Desktop PC.

Why are you telling me about a laptop?
