Re: Dell inspiron or hp pavillion, which one to buy?
u wont get good hp pavallion sub 40K.
Acer Aspire 5738, is better, with good specs. Also u get dell studio from 42K starting.
Dell inspiron will have better config than any hp pavallion in 40K.

True. Acer 5738/G specs are really superb for the price at 40k price tag.

i will prefer dell inspi over acer....
And truly hp pavillion below 40k will be a low quality build...

+1
Acer would be best choice for 40k budget. You never feel bad for purchasing.

From OP's post, we came to know that he doesn't play any big titles and any proccy crunching tools. So a Acer 47xx/57xx would suffice and it sure fulfill his needs. May be a Dell Studio 15 would be a better choice but its upto OP.

Spare a thought for after-sales service.
In my opinion HP has the best after sales service.
Also why not try the compaq range from HP. You would get a good config in 40k.
My friend bought a compaq laptop 8 months back.
It is running without any problems whatsoever. And performance is good too.

you sure, people say its quiet a trouble if your hardware gives problem>> i.e complete hardware replacement. Parts replacement is good in HP, also you have HP service centers in different places unlike Dell. But frankly HP/compaq keep good on good build and total package than good after sales
compaq line up completes with Dell Inspiron.
with new models
dv4 == Dell Studio
dv6 == XPS Studio, infact dv6 package is much better than XPS studio. check dv6-1152 and dv6-1154 models

Re: Dell inspiron or hp pavillion, which one to buy?
yeah thats how it was before also...
but when studio 15 launched no hp model could match it specs in the price range...
nearly all people jumped for it in my college who didn't have a lappy at that time...
seems like the position is changed..
But 1 thing i hate about HP the most is their lineup changes with location WITHIN India...
man thats pathetic... who is running the company... ???

HP Pavilion any day buddy considering that inspiron brand has been demoted to the entry-level by dell. The build quality is also much better with HP and their support and service network is much wider.

Re: Dell inspiron or hp pavillion, which one to buy?
well IMO, Dell studio's build is very very good, I do not like glossy look, in normal consumer group HP have all glossy and imprint finish, only business section laptops have clean adn sturdy looks. Last week I checked and touched Studio, I was quiet impressed, with rugged build and finish.
Beside that chipset used is intel by both so you cannot compete showing you are giving different chipset they will be generally PM45 or GM45 n few others but all intel, except for AMD based laptops. From HP I liked new releases dv6 and probooks(again they are from business line up). I have used HP Compaq 6510b, and have got fixed I will buy laptop of simiar builds only, glossy finish does not look professional, it gives me the feel of being cheap. LOL

Re: Dell inspiron or hp pavillion, which one to buy?
yeah dell gives a lot of color options too... I am just extremly bored of black...
And besides Hp has always competed with dell only because they offered a same build at lower prices..
My theory is that they (hp) had lesser profit margin... So dell build its reputation as a premium brand, but since recession hit hard dell and hp are standing at same prices and builds.... Now if hp can't lower prices down they will get thrown out of competition here for quite some time, since dell has better reputaion, marketing and customer support.
