Thumbs up Data copy too slow to/from my external HDD

Guys, I've a 500GB Maxtor external desktop HDD. Communication interface USB2.0.

Now a days whenever I plug it to any of my USB ports it shows that the drive is connected to a non-high speed port. And data transfer rate gets limited to 975KBps whereas it used to be more than 20MBps.

I've tried all USB ports of my mobo. Same result with all of them.
My other 1TB WD hdd does not show any such problem, to it all USBs are high speed.
I've tried changing the USB cable for Maxtor one but in vain...
Wat happened to my drive? Is it dying or wat? I've at least 300GB data in it. Do I need to worry?
Any solution?

Default Re: Data copy too slow to/from my external HDD

First try this

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Hardware tab.
  3. Click the Device Manager button.
  4. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  5. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  6. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
  7. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

second

if using windows xp update to sp3

Question Re: Data copy too slow to/from my external HDD

Well, I tried the above but it didn't solve the issue. I even installed DriverScanner to find and update any old drivers.

And, after doing all this I remembered that the issue was also found with my frnd's Vista lappy.
So it's not USB drives. How can all USB drives of my room behave drunk at the same time??

Anything I need to do with my drive?
