Default PCIe x16 v2.0

I have seen some motherboards feature a PCIe x16 v2.0 port these days.

What additional benefit does this offer over the PCIe x16 v1.0 if I use a mid-range GPU like 9600 GT or HD 4670.......???

Neither of 9600 GT or HD 4670 are fast enough to utilize PCI-e V2.0's supported bandwidth so no performance increase over PCI-e V1.0 for these cards.

Capacity Per lane:
v1.x: 250 MB/s
v2.0: 500 MB/s
v3.0: 1 GB/s (to be released in 2010)

So the x 16 means that there are 16 lanes available for channeling and data exchange.

Surinder:
Was not PCI. Express always a 16 lane standard, with different speeds..?

No, there was a time when PCI-8x slots were available though for a very brief period. BTW yes, this is the information OP really required provided by you.

Capacity Per lane:
PCI-e 16x v1: 250 MB/s
PCI-e 16x v2.0: 500 MB/s
PCI-e 16x v3.0: 1 GB/s (to be released in 2010)

Basically PCIe 3.0 is double the speed of PCIe 2.0 is double the speed of PCIe 1.0.

3.0 is coming soon by this year end (apparently manufacturers want to cash in on the mad buying season which hits internationally every christmas).

Would not also HD4850, HD4890 --> and the anything > GTX 260 suffice also for PCI.E 2.0. What about the GT8800..??

And right now, the cards don't use the full capability of PCIe 1.1 yet, as which single card has 250MB/s bandwidth(leave HD4870 X2 and GTX295).
