Default Start Discussion on 24" LCD Monitor

Hi all

All we talk about is a 22" HD. But Dell TN Paneled 24" is available for 16.5K. Sammy on the otherhand doesnt have any 24" in India. Kindly suggest what to buy.

Dell's panel is an excellent one. Also you can check LG and Philips. I've not see Philips model physically but the catalog boasts some good features. LG panels are equally good with high DCR and 5ms Response time.
The Dell panel has an edge that it comes with Full HD features (HDMI/built in Audio) and USB ports and i think its cheaper than LG (not very sure)

@ The Sorcerer: I will give an eye and a tooth (or two teeth rather, as both eyes are very vital to see the beauty of the e-ips panel). But it is not available in India as per my knowledge.

I am currently going for the Dell 24". I just hope 2209wa will become available in India. LG 24" is better panel (PVA) but costs 24K-26K. Thats too much. Even sammy doesnt have anything beyond 22" in India. They can bring 24" back to back after talking to the distributor but that too at 26K.

Any other Ideas?

We talk about 22" HD since Samsung 22" 40W 1080p monitor costs under 10K including tax.

But 24" is 16.5K. 65% extra money with small increase in screen area and negligible increase in resolution. Its still not reached a price "for the masses".

And BTW, I guess dell is without competition in 24" 1920x1200 seagment.

Dell 2409W is available for 15k. right? But that 2" does make lot of difference while watching movies.

m waiting for the price fall in 24 inch models.

beside can anyone comment on Benq-G2410HD, on compareindia, I see its price quoted as 11.5K

in India we also get Asus, Asus 26 inch S-PVA model's price is around 26K, so it bcomes better than any other 24 inch display.

and damn our bad luck many a times Dell gives away its monitors in good prices, but here in India no offers anytime.

^I'm picking one up for myself when my pay check rolls in this month. It's an excellent deal for a 24 incher from Dell. Also check up a couple of reviews & looks good enough at that price point. Can't wait to go full HD.

Yo man
I booked him today. Got tired of waiting any longer. AND I HAVE USED A DELL 24 inch before (Droolmal of a friend). Believe me the 2 inches (actually 2and half) matter. As the sizes go up even a single inch more translate to a lot of surface area. There is an excellent review article at techenclave about sizes... Toms hardware is already suggesting to move upto 26" (they are always ahead and get cheaper things... NOT FAIR).

That 2" makes a lot of difference.

Actually I'd rather not go for the 16:9 20-22" Monitors. In fact the BenQ E2200HD that my friend has is just a bit more on the vertical height than a 15" 4:3 screen.

And what do you think will come out of a 21" 1920x1080 resulution screen? Accordaing to what I observed, on such a high DPI screen, 720p and 1080p content looks the same, unless you are within 2 feet of the screen, which you wont be since that will be too near for watching movies.

Lets just not go the 16:9 way. 16:10 was tolerable, people dont need more. Being good for movies doesnt mean being good for computer work and stuff. And above that, you'll still have black bars on that screen since many movies are wider than 16:9 .. at 2.35:1 or so. Plus, I kinda like the balck bars, they give a cinematic look.
