Default ATX 12V -- 4 PIN Supply

Hi,

I created this thread last night, but for some reason, I cannot see it here. So am creating it again.

On my motherboard is a 12V (4 PIN) ATX power supply port. What is this used for. It is the one right above the primary PCI.E expansion slot. Am I supposed to insert a 4 PIN Molex from my power supply into this, or 'can' it supply power to the graphics card. Basically is it a power input source or power output source. Does it have to be connected. The link for the mother board is:

http://www.msi.com/uploads/prod_7f19...3a030ee313.jpg

It is the white four pin connector right above the Blue PCI.E slot.

thanks an lot for the help,

asigh

So my card all ready has two power inputs (HD4890)....via 2 -- 6 pin connectors, so I can leave that connector blank..??..

But why would it be called ATX 12V connector in the manuals..seems..like it needs to be connected...searched the net a lot..could not find any answer...?

^^ You could drop a mail to msi and ask them yourself. Or check in their website if they have an updated manual in pdf format.

Posted a query on the online MSI site..they mentioned..that power can be plugged in if a heavy GPU is used..or even if not..it will not harm the system..!
