Suggest a PC Upgrade

Friends,
I want to upgrade my system. Please suggest the Processor/Mobo/PSU
I'm having 1gbx3 DDRII RAM (667FSB) with me so i don't want to spend on that.
My budget for Mobo+Processor would be roughly around 20k +2/3K (if needed) So please suggest me the best under this budget.
I'm confused whether i should go for Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 or Intel - Core 2 Quad Q6600
The basic usage of the system would be running various CAD/CAM programs and designing softwares like Corel/Photoshop/Dreamweaver etc.
Please help!!

So then a Quad Core will be reasonable for you...
Get a Q9550 for 13.5k and get a ASUS P5Q Pro for 9k...Total = 22.5k

And for PSU get any of these
VX450W - 3.6k
CM 600W - 3.4k
Powersafe Gold 500W - 2.7k

If your looking to save more money and still get similar or better performance as the rig stated above, you can get a phenom 2 940 BE and a biostar 790gx mobo

^^agreed. with no overclocking in mind, Phenom II X4 based rig or Intel Q9550 based rig.

If i go for Phenom II X4 940 processor then which mobo should i opt for...ASUS M4A78 PRO is what i've zeroed down to...please comment...and whether i opt for a separate PSU or should go with a cabinet with preinstalled PSU my budget can not increased so please suggest keeping it in mind..thanks

Go for the AMD rig...the Asus is a good board but i cant find price for it...I suggest you go for a new PSU, the ones with cabby usually suk....think about corsair vx450 at 4k

AMD Phenom 2 940 BE + 790GX based MoBo from Biostar/Gigabyte/Asus is the way to go. Can easily get it for 20k. (Hint: if you have ebay coupon - like 10% or 15% off - then you may get some nice deals there too and save some more money for faster RAM/better PSU/better GFX)

I Finally decided to go with Phenom II X4 940 processor. I've selected Gigabyte's MA790GP-UD4H or MSI's 790FX-GD70 Mobo's. The above CPU is not listed in the compatible processors chart at the MSI's website. I talked to Lynx-superstore and they say it will support the CPU for sure. What you say guys...help me out please
