Its specs are - xfx special edition card...512mb ddr3 540mhz core and 1400mhz memory speed.
I should also mention that the smps is 400w.

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
HD4650 is lot lot faster than 8600GT. 8600GT has become pretty old and its not good for latest games. If your budget is strictly inside 5k, get HD4650
if less than 6k, get HD4670
if less than 7k, get 9800GT or wait for HD4770
At this point of time, I wouldn't go for 8600GT and that too XFX card (xfx 8600GTs are nuclear reactors)

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
but still 8600GT 512 DDR3 for 2.5k with 2 yr warranty left is a steal.
4650 is sure better than 8600GT, but not worth xtra 2k....as its still not better than old 8600GTS.
Moreover its the 8600GT 256 UDF7 which are electric stoves. And this 8600GT 512 DDR3has diff revision number, and is not counted among those faulty models. And 512DDr3 versions is lot better than 256 DDR3.
And yes, if there is a choice b/w a new 8600GT and 4650, u shud kick the 8600GT right away which will cost u close to 4k for 512 ddr3.
And if u CAN stretch to 5k budget, then its another case. Uhave the choice among 4670 and 9600GT. Both perform almost same with the latter consuming much greater power[ull need another PSU].
palit 4670@4.5k
palit 9600GT@5k

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
Palit HD4670 512MB GDDR3 is now only 4.3k. It is far better than HD4650 @4k.

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
^^sure that HD4670 is available for 4.3k?? if yes, then it's a damn good option.
@dominator, there is a difference between HD4650 and 8600GT. When 8600GT can give 20-25fps in a game, then even a 5fps increase from HD4650 or HD4670 makes hell lot of difference. And I do think that HD4650 is much more (than 5fps) faster than 8600GT.

ofcourse 4650 is much faster...
but consider that specific 8600Gt 512 DDr3 for 2.5k....4650 seems to have less bang for the buck.
ie, @ 2.5k it a gr8 deal, if he has only less than 3k to spend.
Ofcourse 4670@ 4.3k is awesome.

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
Get Palit HD4670 512MB GDDR3 SUPER @ 4.8k
Since u don't have a good PSU, this is ur only option. Otherwise it wud have been an HD3850, which is faster than HD4670 too, by quite some margin in some games thanks to nearly double bandwidth.

Re: Should i buy 8600gt with this spec?
seriously 3850 is powerful that 4670?
3850 lost to 9600GT, those days and its a tie b/w 9600GT and 4670 now.
also 3850 consumes power close to 4850 and has similar size and design.

HD3850 is better than HD4670. It OCes better too. I know it's a hot beast, but fan fix helps, a lot. And finally, this card can do a 800MHz core and 1100MHz memory, matching 9600GT or overtaking it in performance.
