Default processor family and stepping

Hi,
I am planning to buy new M/B and new ddr2 ram. But i don't want to replace my existing Processor intel P4 2.4 Ghzs. Problem is one vendor says it is not necessary that new M/B even support 2.4 but don't support your stepping model. How to check /select a M/B which support my processor. My processor is x86 family 15 model 3 stepping 3 genuine intel 2400 Mhzs... Please advice how to select a latest M/B which suport my Prossesor and at least ddr2 ram.
basicaly i want to increse ram but existing M/B 845 suport only ddr1 which is very costly

Default Re: processor family and stepping

I suppose u are using this P4 proccy on 845 motherboard. This means its socket 478 CPU, u will have to get a 845/865 socket motherboard(which dont support DDR2). There are no new MB for this socket, it was discontinued long back. No DDR2 support for this CPU as far as Iknow.

Also Plz chk what FSB ur processor supports. 533Mhz/800Mhz. New MB is priced around 2~2.5k. I suggest u upgrade to AMD platform.

Dont waste ur money on this Config, use it as a download rig or sell it off.
