Thumbs down Memory module problem.

Guys,

I have recently bought 2gig (1gig x 2) RAM from the eBay. I have got this Compaq presario V6102AU laptop and using Windows 7 beta and vista 32bits. before buying 2gig RAM i had checked earlier that my laptop can support up to 2gig of DDR2 memory.

This morning i received them , but they don't seem to work properly. when i started my laptop after installing those two modules, the boot process went okay without any noise or error. OS itself loads, but it won't go beyond the screen after you enter the login password. Blue screen of death comes up for a while and the whole system just goes off.

I tried to boot vista into safe mode as well, and this time it took me to desktop , but just in few seconds the blue screen again comes up and makes the whole system unstable and everything goes off.

What could possibly be causing the problem ? Please guys help me out with this.

Thanks in advance.

Does the laptop support the rated speed of the memory module.
There might be some problem with your HDD as your problem occurs at same spot during logon process.
Download and burn memtest86 onto a CD and boot your laptop with it and let the tests run for 3-4 hours(at a minimum), it will show if there are any problems with your memory modules.

What's the stop error code you are getting in the BSOD screen. It will start from "0x000000...".
Google and download ISO image called memtest and burn the ISO in the disc. Boot the system via the disk and run the test for around 6-10 hours. If it restarts, change the rams and if it doesnt it is not the ram that is at fault.
