RIG ~ 50K
Hi,
I am ready to purchase the following from PRIME ABGB....
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound 3.5 gram
Rs. 415.00
1 x LEXA Blackline RED LED light 8E-LX002-RRB
Rs. 5,720.00
1 x Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E7400
Rs. 6,100.00
1 x Corsair Corsair TX650W Power Supply
Rs. 6,800.00
1 x G.Skill - F2-8500 CL5D - 4GBPK Memory
Rs. 4,400.00
1 x Radeon™ HD 4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition
Rs. 16,500.00
1 x Asus P5Q-E Intel LGA775 Platform Motherboard
Rs. 10,800.00
Total:
Rs. 50,735.00
Any other suggestions you guys would have...I do not want to go beyond this budget..max another 1K-2K...?
Also I wanted to ask:
1. Do the motherboards..include the screws in the standard package..so it can be mounted to the chassis.
2. Do enough connectivity cables come with the power supply and GPU for electrical connections. (Dont care about the XFire/SLI Bridge)..?
thanks a lot for the help...friends...
Anil..

Re: RIG ~ 50K
#1. If you arent buying an aftermarket heatsink, no point in buying a thermal paste now. Dont expect any overclocks on stock heatsink- unless you plan to over it . The intel stock heatsinks have pre applied paste and adding to the face that its a 45nm processor, it will stay cool on stock settings both on idle and on load.
#2. You sure you want to spend 5k on a case? I would buy cm 690. I have tx750 and my friend has tx650. Those wires are thick and strong so you will need a good case with cable management. cm690 have lot of access point so that route your cable in the back.
#3. No comment
#4. vx550~ea 650~ cm rp 550w is enough keeping the current system in mind even with OCs.
#5. Wise choice. Its about time one buys 4GB with 1066mhz. Make sure you use 64 bit OS to use the full potential of the hardware.
#6. I think its bit cheaper now though I am not sure.
#7. Asus p5q-e . Make sure you update the bios. Recent one is BIOS 2001. Older bios have issues being fully compatible with certain type of rams. I have a p5q deluxe and a lot of the users I know have complained that you will have to put the latency timings and DRAM frequency manually to take advantage of the ram's labelled specs. You can keep the DRAM voltage to automatic. Do note that the phase power saver can only be used if all the bios settings are on automatic. I will recommend biostar i45 against this board. Not that I am saying p5q series is bad in hardware, but biostar i45 is known to touch 650 FSB 24/7 orthos stable and it has its share of overclocking records. If you are not going to overclock however, spending 10k on a motherboard is not worth since more than half of the motherboard's potential is wasted.

Re: RIG ~ 50K
Sorcer..thanks for the excellent feedback...
Am buying the thermal paste..might as well....might need it in the future..since I hate going to Nehru Place..to pick up stuff....
Will decide on the case..ABGB does not have the the CM690. Though they do have the Coolermaster Ammo 533 Tough Enclosure for RS. 4200.
Check it out here: LINK FOR Coolermaster Ammo 533 Tough Enclosure
I wanted to go for a 650W power supply so I never have to worry about power issue again..though how would a Cooler Master 600-eXtreme Power be...for RS 3600. Its rated at 600W and is substantially cheaper then the Corsair Corsair TX650W Power Supply -- though the output is 50W less..??
The 64BIT XP upgrade worries me... have 32 BIT..and to go to 64BIT its a clean install...one cannot upgrade it..I do not want to do a clean install..any workaround..I see many people here..with >3GB ram..have the all moved to 64BIT..?? Any suggestions here..?
Will do more research on the motherboards..Yes.I do plan to overclock..for sure..but till now I have a good impression of ASUS..though not saying Biostar makes bad boards...
Also I had asked about screws for the mother board..and connectivity cables..any insights there..

Re: RIG ~ 50K
Antec EA-650w is your best bet at 4.8K don't even think of Cooler Master 600-eXtreme Power there is no comparison what so ever you are comparing A donkey with a horse(horses are antec EA 650 and Corsair TX650 in that case).Let me explain the difrances :-
CM exteme power VS Antec & corsair ones
Passive PFC VS Active PFC
70% efficiency VS more then 80% efficiency
generates more heat VS generate less heat
Not so quiet VS more quieter
cheaper components VS quality components used
(2) There is a trick to overcome 32 Bit OS bottleneck of 3.2GB max RAM utilization
I don't know the exact proses so google for it and you can happily live with your 32 Bit OS.
(3) Screws are usually being supplied with cabinets.

Pick up tuniq tx-2 in that case. It will cost you approx Rs. 150 and tests that are being done by international forum members/ reviewers allready mentioned that its in par with artic mx-2 which costs 300 bucks. Although you do get tuniq tx-2 thermal paste included when you buy sunbeam core contact freezer heatsink. Get a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol with above 90% alcohol content and a lint free cloth. Using them remove the pre applied thermal paste on the stock heatsink. Make sure its removed properly or else the thermal paste might loose thermal conductivity.

Well in that case, there some other nzxt model which is known to be a good case and one of the guys whom I know who is more technically sound then me concluded that this particular case is good. Not sure the model but I will let you know soon

I used 64 buit windows vista. Didnt use 64 bit xp though. You will eventually have to do a clean installation though. By any chance the hard drive which you have, are they IDE?

If you check out the benchmarks at good international tech forums like xtremesystems.org, you will get a good idea. But in this day of age, its best if the bios is updated. I didn't have much vdroop issues though. Gettiong DRAM:FSB ratio as 1:1 is bit of a pain :/.

Nothing special. Just use the brass standoffs and the screws that you get with the case.

Re: RIG ~ 50K
^^It wud, yes. Only if u wanna buy.
But just get a Palit HD4870, OC core to 825MHz, Memory to 1100MHz, there, the performancw will actually exceed that of HD4890.

Re: RIG ~ 50K
HD 4870? Why not Gtx 260 < 19k~approximate.
Change the proccy to E8400 at least or buy CC freezer 92mm for 1.2k. U cant overclock much with tht proccy. It will be a bottleneck.
Expect perfomance to stutter in CPU intensive apps

Instead of NZXT u can mod a CM 690. Some of the cases I have seen are far better than lexa(at least to look at)

Re: RIG ~ 50K
^^ No it does not. I am using e7200 with 4870 1GB ddr5 flawlessly. Sadly people underestimate newer processor's architecture. Games like crysis and dead space react bit faster when the DRAM: FSB ratio is 1:1 or atleast 2:3. Which is also another reason I hate p5q since every settings seem to give different dram: fsb. But once I manage to get 1:1, the systems gets instable at 6 hours orthos blend test.
Not all steppings belonging to e8xxx series processors are overclockers. Some are pretty stubborn to go beyong 0.5 ghz. The beauty of e 5xxx and e7xxx series processors is even if you have the worst luck on earth and get a pretty tough stepping with high VID, you do get atleast 1GHZ stable overclock. Anything more than that depends on skill and you will have to put bit more voltage. My 3.8 ghz overclock is 24/7 stable @ 1.30v and 3.5 ghz is stable @ stock volts. But I still put the voltage manually to prevent any vdrops.
@OP: You can go for a better graphic card if you want to, but the deal is that its best of one grabs a e-ips panel type rather than the TN panel type lcd screen. Googling about "types of lcd monitor" will give a better idea what I am saying. There's one from 22 inch dell and it costs 15-16k. I heard from pretty resourceful that we would see 22 inch e-ips panel from samsung as well. Reason I am mentioning is, TN panel have poor colour reproduction against e-ips panels. One will see their true potential of the IQ level and colour reproduction of ones current (and some old ones too) graphic card on an e-ips panel. The response time funda for e-ips is completly different. Best part of e-ips panel is No ghosting at all. To a certain extent it makes sense to go for e-ips panel and with mid range card. Its not everyday we can afford to change screens.

Re: RIG ~ 50K
I was thinking..what if I do not overclock my motherboard..am happy overclocking just the GPU....
So which would be a good Mother board (can save money)..which would support the above mentioned....specially the 4 GB DDR2 x 1066 Mhz....and the 4870 1GB GPU....and the E7400 CPU...?
Also my choice of cabinet is seeming a 'tad' too expensive too me. Any other good cabinet...I would prefer a good looking cabinet..with one transparent panel...??
Thanks a ton in advance for the professional advice....!!!!
regards,
Anil

Re: RIG ~ 50K
listen, at 1920x1080, if u have a 3GHz CPU which is a 3/4 core, it won't matter much. Yes, more than 2 cores is a boon, but not by much, and only in a very few games, which are more CPU bound than GPU bound. But even then, you'll get fantastic fps of which u'll hav nothing to complain.

The response time funda for e-ips is completly different. Best part of e-ips panel is No ghosting at all. To a certain extent it makes sense to go for e-ips panel and with mid range card. Its not everyday we can afford to change screens.

I didnt mean games when I said "CPU intensive apps". I am sure E7400 is nowhere close to stuttering with normal applications for now. But when using Software that are CPU intensive e7400 is lot slower than Q9550/i7. Eg:Editing a png file of 50mb+ e7400 is slower than a quad core.
For playing games E8400 is sufficient by my take.
And did I say U cant overclock with e7400. -----> I am sry maybe I didnt see
e7400 can hit 4ghz easily.
