Default Upgrading a 5 year old system

Hi Guys, I have a 5 year old system having P4, Intel 845 GL mother board, 256 DDR RAM, 40 GB HDD. I now want to upgrade it and get some noteworthy performance benefits .Can some of you suggest some good replacements?

Besides I face frequent system restart and hanging problems when I connect to internet.

Thanks..........

Don't consider upgrading, go for a new one.

If you are not a gaming freak : A pentium 4 processor(2nd hand) if supported by your board and 1 GB of RAM will do job for you

otherwise a new system is recommended

I would suggest that you upgrade your pc slowly and steadily. upgrade certain components while keeping the old machine. This way you can get the best of components without making a huge hole in your pocket instantly.

First you can start off with a better monitor.
Then a good set of speakers.
A sound card if you're getting a good set of 5.1 speakers
Then DVD writer (if you dont have one)
Once you've reached this stage and saved enough money, you can finally upgrade your pc with a new motherboard, processor and ram since they all work hand in hand with each other.
Finally you can get a bigger hard disk preferably a sata 500gb/1tb.

This is how I have upgraded my pc over the course of 3 years. I have spent over 40k and all thats left of the old pc is the cabinet. lolz.
