Question Need help building gaming PC

I'm planning to build a new gaming PC with budget of 40K. I am eyeing AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE as processor and have a set of questions. Here are those.
  1. Do this processor support DDR3 RAMs as this might be necessary for future proofing?
  2. Which MoBo should i opt for, M3-series of M4-series? It should have 790GX and SB750.
  3. What do you think would be better economically and at performance front? 4 GB DDR2 or 2 GB DDR3?
Sorry for my noobness. I am new to these H/W thingies.

1) No. Phenom II X4 series is a DDR2 and DDR3 compatible integrated memory controller. The first batch of Phenom II processors, like the ones we're looking at today, however, will only work with DDR2 memory. Finally, the new Phenom II X4 processors will be offered at higher frequencies than existing models

2) yep. 790GX+SB750 is a great combination
3) 4GB DDR2. Definitely.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've right now decided to go for 4 GB DDR2. Now comes Motherboard part. I am to wrap up MoBo and CPU under 20K. Could anyone suggest a board for Phenom II 940 BE and 790GX+SB750? Since CPU might cost around 12K, it should be under 8K or so.

if you are going for nvidia based card, pick this for 9k:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...&maincat_no=1#

Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H (rev. 1.0) is good 790GX+SB750 based board but costs around 9k.

I would go for a 780G based board for 4.5k-5k and invest the rest on GPU.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am also thinking about going for 780G board. So, here's my CPU, MoBo and GFX card configuration.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE.
Asus M3N78-EM
XFX GeForce 8800 GT.

Any suggestion for change?

Don't go for 780G based board. They don't have the Advance Clock Calibration function to utilize the Advance Overclocking features of Phenom II processors. With the above mentioned technology, by using just a air cooler, u can overclock the Phenom II 940 to 3.8 to 4 GHz. I have done it myself.
My suggestion is go for Biostar TA790GX motherboard. It is having crossfire, Max 16 GB (1066MHz) DDR2 ram support and plenty advance features u like. Price is just 5k and in this price, its a steal. With extra money go for a 600 watt power supply.

^^that's a nice find. yes. SB700 chipset doesn't support Advanced Clock Calibration. YOu need to have atleast SB710 for ACC.

that biostar board is a decent one.
Also check GA-MA790GP-UD4H and GA-MA790GP-UD4H from Gigabyte.

My suggestion is going for a Phenom II 920 Quad core. It is having an extra core, larger L3 cache (8 MB compared to 4 MB of 720). It will be a better performer. Street price is around 10k.

-Both P2 720 and P2 920 have 6MB L3 Cache.
-Both have a speed of 2.8GHz.
-However, 720 has a HT Speed of 4GHz, 920 has 3.6GHz.
-The fourth core of 720 can be unlocked, to make it a better processor than 920(AM# socket + 4GHz HT = Better performance), and it's foolproof.

I hope I have justified myself.
