Question SATA or SATA 2. Any Difference??

Hey,
I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ 754 Pin.
And an ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard.

I want to purchase a Seagate 500 GB SATA hard disk. (My motherboard has SATA port.)
But i want to make sure if this hard-disk will support my system.
I read that hard-drives are now coming with SATA 2 Interface.
Will there be any problem because my Motherboard has SATA port, not SATA 2.

Currently I am using a 40 GB Seagate PATA Hard- Disk.

sata 2 hard disk are backward compatible and there is no port difference between sata 1 and sata 2.
