Default Combo Drive problem

I have been using Mercury combo drive since october 2005. for the past few months whenever i try to get a cd burned, the burning process gets aborted halfway spoiling the CD. of late the burning process gets terminated in the beginning itself. It displays error as power calibration error. What should i do. Should i discard my combo drive and get a new one...?. i have also included a screen shot .

Are you using windows xp with service packs by any chance? Some of the updates are known to make ran DMA/PIO conflicts. Not necessary that this IS the possibility- its just one of them which is common but most often overlooked in forums. Good burn also depends on discs and writing speeds as well. Crappy Tier 2 discs like moser baer Made in India ones are pretty sad ones to use to constantly burn.

try reducing the write speed,if it works that is probably because the CD/DVD's are of low quality.

Try to clear the lens of the drive, using lens cleaner CD and then try.
