RAM suggestion
hello guys.
i already have a 2gb DDR2 Transcend RAM@800Mhz.
i want to upgrade with a 2*2gb @800Mhz Kit.
what is the cheapest and the best 2*2gb @800Mhz module from Corsair,G Skill and OCZ.
OCing is not important and my budget is 4k MAX but would love to buy in the range of 3k!
and have DDR2 prices reduced in India?
thank you
how are these models?
G-Skill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ (2GB x 2) 800 MHz @ 3.2k
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5(2 X 2GB DDR2 800MhZ C5) @3.3K

Well, if NOT OCing, and as per the above 2 options (Corsair and G SKill)
Go for G Skill... as it has got less latency as compared to the Corsair one..
but yes, this is also a FACT that Corsair RAMs hv a 10Year warranty, so if i were u, i wud hv gone for Corsair....(even though the latency is a bit on the higher side)..

Re: RAM suggestion
RAMs of different brands can be used BUT BUT BUT ONLY if their Latencies match EXACTLY same.. like 3-3-3-12 or sum thing of this sort, hope ur doubt is cleared now..
also, Corsair offers 10Yr warranty on its products, i hv no idea abt g Skill man..

Re: RAM suggestion
i meant a Gskill/corsair kit on dual channel and Transcend on the 3rd slot.
there wont be any computability issues right?
btw my transcend latency is 5-5-5-18 and the GSkill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ has 5-5-5-15....that's hardly any difference right?is Gskill worth the extra money??

Re: RAM suggestion
hmmm...thanks
but are you SURE that the 0-0-0-3 lower latency would make a huge diff in Gkill/Corsair?
im sry to ask again...its just that i want to make sure the money i spent is worth while...

Re: RAM suggestion
Man get anyone of them. If you had an AMD CPU, then your need would have been one with
CAS latency - - 4-4-4-12
BTW, anyone noes of a 4GB kit with the aforementioned timings? Please tell me, post here or PM me ASAP!!!!!

Dnt be sorry dude,.. well, even im not sure abt the 0-0-0-3 making a huge difference or wat,
I think the overall performance also depends on ur system specs (for these RAMs to giv ultimate performance) i may be wrong, but even im not tat expert in these things..

@ashu888ashu88
I am afraid you need to do a lot more readings, ...am much surprised that you dont know these things despite buying the new system based on the new platform
@RMN is correct about his\her logic

just because your evga x58 motherboard only support max 12GB memory doesn't mean that it applies to all other motherboard...
for your information ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 support maximum of 24GB of memory...
one stick of 4GB is in the market

Re: RAM suggestion
@comp@ddict
im not the best at this but here you go
F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ(2GB x 2) 800 MHz-good ram latency 5-5-5-15,bad OCer
F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI (2GB x 2) 800 MHz-very good RAM,better latency 4-4-4-12 ,better heat spreders, better OCer and you gett couple of cool stickers ..OCC had a positive review.
F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK- dont know much but acc to spec i has higher volts,4-4-4-12
F2-8800 CL5D- 4GBPI
CAS_Latency 5-5-5-15
Speed DDR2-1100 (PC2-8800)
Test_Voltage 1.8 ~ 1.9 Volts
PCB 8 Layers PCB ---the others are 6 layers
and just like 6400CL4D-4GBPI has better heat spreaders and stickers.
So after countless hours of benchmarking and sweat, where do we stand with G.Skill's F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI memory kit? The F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI is sort of a mixed bag. On the bright side, with stock speeds of DDR-1100 at a miserly 1.9V, you don't have to worry about the memory not having enough voltage while booting up that you can run into with some higher voltage modules. Also factor in a supported FSB of 550Mhz, this kit should make most casual overclockers happy.
On the down side, overclocking wasn't quite what I expected out of this kit as it didn't respond at all to higher voltage and actually seemed to become more unstable if you pushed more than 1.9V into it.
Quote:
|
To sum things up, the F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI is a good kit as long as you don't expect too much above stock speeds. However, with attractive heatspreaders and even more attractive prices of DDR2, this is a great kit to add 4 gigabytes of memory for very little dough
|
i say,if you are no OCing go for F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ 800 MHz
anf if you are F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI 800 MHz

Re: RAM suggestion
RMN, this came to my mind just now. I don't need the RAM for OCing, I'm planning on the Phenom II X4 940 B.E., I'll be simply increasing the multiplier for OCing, not the bus speed.
So now where do we stand,
1. 4-4-4-12 CAS latency DDR2 800MHz
or
2. 5-5-5-15 CAS latency DDR2 1100MHz(are u sure, or is it 1066MHz?)
Note:- We have to keep in mind that the performance increase when switching from 5-5-5-15 DDR2 667MHz to 5-5-5-15 DDR2 800MHz on an AMD platform gave 6% improvement in performance.
Whereas when 4-4-4-12 DDR2 800MHz was used instead of 5-5-5-15 DDR2 800MHz, there was a phenomenal 17% improvement.
So now where do we stand, a faster DDR2 1100MHz or a low latency DDR2 800MHz, keeping in mind AMD platform favours lower latencies than higher speeds more.
That's the reason DDR3 AM3 Phenom CPUs don't give more than 5% increase in performance since DDR3 RAM latency is way higher than DDR2.
