System hanging after installing SATA hard drive(250GB)

hi all,
my system hangs every 15 mins while working. i have to restart my system every time.I have windows XP SP3 now. the same problem occurs with Windosw XP SP2 also. Can you please help me in this issue.

My System configuration
Processor AMD Athlon64
Motherboard asus 8KVX
Hard Disk 80GB IDE +250GB SATA
RAM 512+1GB (400MHz Both)

Google for HD tune and download it. Run an error scan- if it happens again then change the sata port and the sata cable. If you see red dots on the hard drive- you have bad sectors so you need to RMA you drive in this scenario.
After doing this and next time you post, mention the psu. To be on the safe side, clean the vents of the psu from dust using a dry brush or can of compressed air only. Use a different molex connector to power for hard drive as well.

reformat your system and reload everything again, it may solve the problem

Faulty piece, must be bad sectors. I would suggest you to replace it rather than installing some softwares and fixing it as this problem may persist in future also.

can it be an issue with BIOS not supp. a 250gb HDD?
is your BIOS the latest ver.?
