Wink All Motherboard queries & suggestions here

Hi, I decided to make a thread where all Motherboard queries & suggestions would be dealt here. So, no one needs to make a new thread. Any questions like: I want to buy this MoBo for this price?? Or what's wrong with this MoBo?? BIOS problem?? And so on are answered here. Anyone can suggest, which is the best 'bang for the buck' motherboards & High-end motherboards, etc. There's nothing to say more. So, Go On!!

Looks Like I am the First one D

So here's my Query

Can My MoBo support DDR2?

I have a p4 515
Socket (SKT) 775.
ASUS PTGD1-LA Mobo
HP/Compaq name: Grouper-UL8E
Used in many Compaq & HP Desktop Systems
Chipset : Intel 915p/915g
Max FSB speed 4x200Mhz(800MHz)

I ran SiSoft SAndra and It showed me in Max Installable memory ad 4GB and I currently have 512x2Mb DDR1
and In Supported Memory types it shoed DIMM DDR DDR2

What does this mean?? can I put DDR2 RAM too?
If yes than I can throw away my DDR and get 4 as many..

I wait for your replys

First get CPU-Z software from www.cpuid.com and post screenshots after executing cpuz.exe from all the tabs in CPU-Z.

Ok, so i guess (with so many MSI mobos failing) im right to say tat the MSI mobo specifically the MSI x58 Eclipse for core i7 processors (intel's newly launched Nehalems) are really going poof....

Whereas the Gigabyte adn Asus ones (x58's) for core i7's are really good..

Stay away from asus honestly. But gigabyte is a really good and fast board especially with the new bios- as said by one of the ln2 overclocker in another forum.

I have HP t series desktop. and I wanted to know if it will support DDR2 'cause as i said before SiSoft Sandra shows that it supports DDR2..

I searched the net and found out that 915G Chipset supports DDR and DDR2 bth.
I was wondering how ca it support both? Like they had different pins right?
Does my MoBo have dual RAM support? How will I know?

RUnning Sandra a few more times to confirm, I stumbled upon this : It said that my CPU supports HT technology but the OS Does not WHat does it mean?
My CPU p4 2.93Hz 515 Supports HT?

If u used DDR1, I don't think it'll support DDR2 in any way.

Default Re: All Motherboard queries & suggestions here

I am planning to buy a new comp and was wondering which of the 2 motherboards should I opt for:

Abit IP35-E
MSI P43 Neo

Here is the rest of the config in case that influences the decision somehow:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
Kingston 1GB DDR2 800mhz x2
Seagate SATA 2 320GB HDD with 16mb buffer
Palit 9600GT 1GB Sonic
CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 500W

I have heard that the MSI P43 Neo has a squashed up layout which would eliminate 1 PCie slot with my current gcard, but it has support upto 16GB of RAM. I have also heard that the Abit IP-35 E has a very good layout but has inferior cooling compared to the MSI P43 Neo and it supports 8GB RAM.

Please help guys!!

^^You definitely need a Aftermarket cooler. If you overclock the P4 with the retail cooler, the temps. will be pretty high. P4 is a 90nm architecture, so runs pretty hot. Motherboard here it is: Intel D875PBZ which supports DDR2 and has good inbuilt graphics, don't expect it to run any modern games!! Here's the link: http://support.intel.com/support/mot...5pbz/index.htm

@comp@ddict - No, the OSes won't use HT-Tech. It depends on the apps you use...

Man XP does support HT, else there wud be crash, only WIn98 doesn't and while using P4 HT, I had to disable HT from the bios to run, XP has what it's called -

"Multi-Processor Support"

Here this refers to both more than 1 physical core(s) or a physical core(s) with a virtual core(s).
