Red face Partition not detected after installing ubuntu

I hav 2 hdd(500gb sata2 and a 40gb ide) and hav installed ubuntu on the 40gb hdd but though the installation was successful yet when i restarted my pc it only boots into win xp and there is no option of booting into ubuntu moreover in the win explorer window the 40gb hdd is not shown any more though the device manager is listing it(probably because its not in ntfs or fat32 any more).i thought that maybe there some error in installation and reinstalled it on my 500gb hdd (40gb partition).but still i hav the same problem more over i am now loosing out on 80gb. so how can i get back this 80gb and hav a dual boot?
thanx in advance

Default Re: Partition not detected after installing ubuntu

Yes the problem is because XP does not recognise linux partitions. You need to format linux partitions in DOS. As far as dual booting is concerned this may be of help.
