It is very simple connecting LAn between 2 computers, this is what I have done at home to play multiplayer games between 2 PC's
You can buy a cross cable at around 30 rs and connect both the pc's using it.
Once done.
Right click on the taskbar icon of 2 computers showing lan.
Change the Ip of both the computers , for eg
192.168.5.20
and
192.168.5.23

now add subnet as 255.255.255.0
and gateway as 192.168.5.40 (common for both)

then disable any firewalls that stop the lan access or monitor it. (sometimes causes issues)
And that's it your done.

to check you can ping too or make folders sharable.

lan is ok... but when we do this in xpsp2 and then while trying to dial broadband with old settings, it shows generic host error. how to avoid this?
