DVD Writer - Suggest

I bought a Sony OEM DVD writer 2 years back. It developed a tray problem after 3 months- sent for repair - developed same problem again. Then it stopped reading Dual Layer DVDs. And from last 2 months, it's not even reading DVD5 sometimes.
So I want to buy a new cost-effective DVD Writer. Budget around 1000-1200. Don't need Lightscribe. Isn't really excited abt 18X etc. because the prevalent media is still 16X. Please suggest some good models and price. Thanks to all in advance.

hell_storm, bad choice. Sony drives with nec/optiarc hardware suck. CDfreaks forums absolutely detest them and so do i, as a matter of fact, got one myself and tried some reflashing, started to work for me thankfully, but there are people whose drives still dont work;...
