DVD Writer not working

I got a Samsung SH-S203D Optical Drive & from the last 15 days it is not reading some of my DVDs. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I tried cleaning the lens but still no solution...I wanted to ask some things

1) A New Optical Drive costs Rs 1000, is worth repairing & should I just buy a new one?

2) Should I buy an Internal Optical drive at all? Other then backing up my downloaded T.V Shows i have no other use of it.

3) How is the performance of an external Optical drive? I can either buy a native external drive or buy an internal drive with External drive casing. This way I won't have the drive installed all the time & will use it only when needed.

Which psu? Windows is reportedly having issues with dvd drives because of the pio/dma conflicts. I recommend that check the advance settings on the IDE/atapi controllers on your device manager. Make sure its under DMA. Doesnt work then do the same on your bios as well.
