Default Computer lag while reading/writing from dvd-rw drive

my comp specs are as follows:
intel c2d e7200 processor
intel dg35 motherboard
1gb x2 ddr2 ram
nvidia 9500gt 512 mb
seagate 250gb sata hdd
wd 160gb usb hdd
sony dvd rw dru-v200a

whenever i read or write a dvd or cd my computer lags horribly.... even when no other processor is running.... it takes me 40 mins to burn a dvd or even a cd and i can barely open my computer..... i can't watch a movie off a dvd because it lags too much everytime i have to copy data from the dvds onto my comp and even that takes too much time..... i've asked around and each time i get the reply that i'm runnin in PIO mode and not DMA, but that is not an issue.... i really don't know what to do ..... someone please help me......

Ya. Seems like you drive is runnig on PIO mode. Go to device manager & set it to DMA mode in IDE ATA/ATAPI section.

Another thing could be bad data cable or loose connection or even a bad data port on mobo. Try with a new cable on a new port.

Windows auto detect & install DVD Writer driver. They just work fine for all the drives.

BTW, What software you use to burn DVDs & quote the version also. It could be some drivers conflicting with each other.

Use only a single stick of Ram & see what happens.
Remove & Reinsert your Rams Firmly.

Unistall all DVD writing software & Run some Registry cleaning Tool.
Uninstall your DVD Drive From Device Manager. Restart Comp.
Windows Will automatically Reinstall DVD drive driver.
Copy data from DVD drive to USB & see if it lags.
Use tools like Imgburn to write DVD.

Try some Linux Live CD & see if it takes Too long to boot.

All in all it seems like your DVD drive has some prob. I think you need a replacement for that drive
