Black bars with HD videos!

i downloaded few 720pHD trailers off itunes store and played it on my monitor which supports 720p with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
but how come i get black bars on top and bottom??? and its pretty thick like in CRT monitors.

Check your aspect ratio.

720p videos have a resolution of 1280x720 or 16:9.

my monitor has a native res of 1680x1050.

but i just learned that HD vids are not always 16:9.

Assuming you're using VLC media player, right click anywhere on the screen -> video -> aspect ratio -> change it to 16:10. VLC shall re-size the video to fit your screen.
