Pc not turning on when connecting HDD

I have another problem with my pc now , i got my new hdd after my previous one got damaged ..

my pc dosent start when hdd is connected . when i press the start button quickly the lights glow and then goes off .

but when i remove the sata 2 hdd cables i am able to get the boot message etc ..

now i am scared if my new hdd will also get damaged ..


My config is
2*1 gb 800 mhz ddr2 transcend ram
c2d 6750
abit ip 35 mobo
wd 320 gb HDD
xfx 8600 gt
frontech 500 watts power supply



please help me , does this have some thing to do with the power supply ?

^It might be your PSU issue...the same thing happened to me with my graphics card and 500W PSU...i changed to 700 and everything was fine.

is 500 w not sufficient for mine ?

Almost one year it worked fine .

Buy a Cooler Master 460W, it shud do the trick.

But all these days my pc was working fine without any trouble .

Also check if it works by changing the SATA Cable.
Make sure that the cable is also not excessively bent.

Check boot priority in BIOS before buying anything.

Would that prevent the system from starting , i have tried clearing the cmos too

Depends- no harm in checking bios. Trash the power supply in any case. bad power supplies slowly kill the pc and when one notices- its too late. cm 460w extreme plus has efficiency of 70% tested under operational temps of 40 degrees celcius.

I am getting a new power supply soon , 460 w would be sufficient for my pc ?

I lost a hdd with lots of data in it , i dont want to take any more chances

Man you better stay away from computer and buy a typewriter .. jokes apart .. get your computer checked by a professional. You will save lot of time...
