Mice keep dying

in this past sem 4 mice ive used with my laptop have died in the latest one just the laser the buttons still worked i dont remember about the other. the pattern seems random anyone have any idea what the problem couod be?

USB supplying excess voltage perhaps?

i tested the voltage ...
it was constant at 5 i think

the reason i cant go to a shop is that i cant replicate it. it just randomly happens i was planning to get a wireless keyboard and mouse set but i need to sort this out first
