Default Problem in connecting my Portable Hard Drive to my PC. Need Help

Hi Friends,

I have a Western Digital 250 GB Passport Essential Portable Hard Drive. When I connect it to my PC via USB the Removal Disk appears and disappears constantly in windows Explorer. Even if it stays when I click the removable disk the Drive disappears. Sometimes it works but when I read/write I get some error and the drive again disappears.

I have tried in all the USB ports, but still I face the same problem in all the USB ports.

Note: 1. The Portable Hard Drive works perfectly in my friends PC.
2. Pen Drives works fine in my PC.
3. I have re-installed OS 3 times but still face the same problem

Please suggest a solution for this problem. I'm not able to read / write anything from my portable HDD.

Use a USB power cable to power your external drive. It should come with one.

The WD portable HDD doesn't need an external power supply and there is no provision for it also.

I downloaded this FIX file microsoft but its not an Installable EXE. The EXE files has an file "ohci1394.pdb" and I extracted to a directory. I searched in google but unable to find where to place this files. I don't know what to do with this file.

http://rapidshare.com/files/16890720...s-enu.exe.html

someone tell me what to do with this file.

Thumbs up Re: Problem in connecting my Portable Hard Drive to my PC. Need Help

Ok, let tell u a story, c if it matches ur condition.

My friend bought one 80GB portable maxtor HDD. Its fully USB like urs. It has two USB ends comparing to normal One USB which goes to PC and another End(don't know wat it calls) which goes to ur HDD.
Initially when we connected only one USB end to Lappy, the drive was not showing, we tried several times, but same thing. Then we tried with inserting both the USB cables in Lappy and it worked.

Now this will come handy if ur drive has also same USB connector and u can try as we did.

Else, check ur USB ports, they might not getting proper power.

your USB ports are loose, due to which it recognizes and then goes off.
In my lappy there are 4 USB ports and have made one loose anything which I put in that does not works may get detected once but working constantly not happens.

What about other USB devices, do they work properly in your system.

If what I say is correct get a PCI Card with USB ports.
Certainly its not a problem with your external.

Besides this I have seen in a few quiet old systems my external does not gets detected, even though pen drives work fine in them.

I am using WD Passport 160 GB
