Cool Should I go for the RAM Upgrade ?

Hey there friendlies!

I own a Compaq Presario V3425AU which I got around end of July 2007.
These are its specs :
1.71 GHz AMD 64bit Athlon X2
1 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM ( 2 x 512 )
160 GB HDD
nforce chipset with onboard GeForceGo6150 ( now sharing 256MB memory)
and the regulars like wifi , bluetooth , dvdrw etc etc
Running Windows XP

I generally play occasional games, nothing too demanding as I know with 6150 chipset its foolish to expect the laptop to run latets games. But what I do expect it to run is occasional Role Playing Games , Strategy games released till 2006 - 2007. I hope I am not setting my Hopes too high only to be dashed! mg:

With 1 GB DDR2 RAm I found that Neverwinter Nights 2 lags ! What a bummer, now that I have some cash handy , I am considering upgrading the RAM. Right now I have 2 x 512 667Mhz modules. I am thinking of replacing one of the two 512 MB modules with a 2 GB module.

How much performance gain can I expect ? With 2.5 GB of RAM Can I expect them strategy and RPGs to run better ?

Help please! :whiteflag:

I have vista basic on my compaq v6608au laptop. with turion tl58 and 512MB*2 DDr2 Ram.Just two weeks back replaced one 512 MB with a 2GB DDR2 SODIMM. Still vista shows the same free available RAM which rarely crosses 200 MB. Since you have got a Win XP installation surely this will increase the performance considerably. I bought this 2 GB for Rs.1600 in Chennai.

^^ u can surely expect sum increase in game performance, (but) do not expect to run these games at higher settings.. (bcoz) of the onBoard GeForce Go chipset..

still, its never bad to increase the RAM eiter on a desktop or on a lappy, but do get it installed (upgraded) by a Compaq's technician.. preferably in their own service center (coz u knw the hassels u might face if sumthing goes wrong if u hv installed RAM from sumwhere else than the Compaq Service Center..) ..

the thing is you should buy one compatible for your particular laptop..and there are options to check it at memory vendor websites..ex:crucial.com
the rest is just opening the right place under your laptop and installing is lego-like

buying 2 1GB modules could be better as they would work in dual channel, however I'm myself confused about this concept of dual channel, do 2 1GB modules really work in dual channel or we have to buy 2GB kit I'm still confused.
