HDD Blues and PSU Wanted

My configuration is as follows:
1> Intel C2D E8400
2> ASUS P5Q
3> XFX 8600GT 256MB DDR3
4> Transcend Jetram 1GB DDR2 667MHz

These were bought on August 30, 2008. Old components include:
1> Samsung SP0812C HDD SATA 7200rpm (June 2004)

[not adding un-necessary components]

The problem is when i boot the machine (Windows XP SP3), it takes 3-4 minutes to be ready after the welcome screen goes and the desktop appears. When i start Task Manager (as soon as desktop comes), under the 'process' tab there is no username next to any process. Slowly they start appearing after 3-4 minutes.

Sometimes pgrograms crashes. It just freezes. Even while browsing through Opera (non machine intensive) it just gets stuck quite often. I have to wait for atleast 10 minutes.


Plus, I wanna buy a CoolerMaster PSU. Got my eyes set on 460W or 500W. Got budget constraints. So no Corsair. I stay in Kolkata. Can anyone recommend me a good shop from where i can get this baby at as-much-as-possible low price? Already know about Saboo, they are asking 3400 for it. MD Computers dont have it.

apart from checking the hard disk for error, have u tried to check the ram for errors? and you didnt mention what your old psu is?

yes i did it. ram's okay.
my 2 months old psu is an i-ball 400 watt

try formatting and re-installing winxp..thats it
if cannot that hdd might have a problem.
if i understand correctly you said you have checked the hdd for error?
