Thumbs down Motherboard Change or PC upgrade ?

HI

I have Pantium 2.8c GHz process, Intel865GBF mother board with 1.5 GB of RAM

Capactor of my Motherboard have problem, causing to PC to get hung while working quite frequently. I checked Intel's site that it has stopped supporting the Pantium4 process family and it's motherboard.

Now which option is better ? Either to replace mother board or go for CPU / Motherboard / RAM upgrade ?

Thanks

Replacing your motherboard will be a cheaper option. MSI P35 Neo F supports P4 Prescott processors.

MSI P35 Neo is not compatible with Pentium 2.8GHz.

MSI board comes with Socket 775.

afaik, that particular processor uses Socket 478.

You cannot get new mobo for this processor. You may have to check for second hand boards.

Or you need to get new proccy mobo and ram.

What I was saying was, P35 supports P4 Prescott processors. I don't know if this one's a Prescott or not.

That P4 must be Socket 478 (as per the motherboard)

Get some cheap upgrade like E2140/ASUS P5KPL-VM/2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM

If you still wanna buy new mobo... some shops here still stock old 845 based Mercury mobos. Dunno about big cities like Mumbai, etc.

Yep. His proccy is a P4 Northwood, and so it won't go with the P35.

A cheap upgrade would be
Intel C2D 2140/2180
MSI 945G Neo F
Kingston 1 GB DDR2 667/800 Mhz
