Default Wanna buy a new graphics card

I want to buy a new graphics card, most likely from nVidia or ATi. I'm having an Intel p4(no HT; 800 MHz FSB;3.0 GHz) and an intel motherboard. I wanna buy a card for 3D modelling and animation and also to play latest gaes like HL2, Quake4 etc. on my PC. My budget is around 5000-6000. I wud like a decent 64mb card or maybe better(if possible).. thanks.

Between 5000-6000 you can best get Ge force 6200 256 MB but it wont be able to run the above games at high res . Invest a little more and go for Geforce 6600 GT for around 7500 .

what about ATi cards? A member at the winamp.com forums said that ATi has better driver support for Linux than nVidia.

Dont go for 6200 . i personally own 6200 and thats why i am telling you . You will be able to play the games at low resolution with major eye candy's turned off . 6600 GT will be a lot better option .

ok. but anyways, how about this: XFX GeForce 6200 512 MB DDR PCI-E (8000 Rs.)

I'm searching for a 6600(non GT cause 6600 GT is quite costly), but in 512 megs.. it's a bit costly.

[edit]
I found something: XFX GeForce 6600 256 MB non GT DDR PCI-E (7000 Rs.)

Go for the 6600 instead of a 6200 and dont worry about the megs, 256-128 is very fine indeed for major usage too

Simply go for XFX 6600 with 256MB with either AGP 8x or PCI-e. You can also try Gainward products. And for 512MB Vram, make sure that your mobo supports it well.
Still it doesn't actually matter at all.
Choose in between 5700 or 6600 with 256MB of ram.
Also make sure to have a good rated SMPS for these gc.

If you are primarily buying graphics card for heavy modelling and animation, then please look out for Quadro cards. Though i would personally suggest you to go for 1100.
