New gaming PC
Hello everyone,
If you remember me, I was the one who asked about NFS prostreet graphic settings with 6200TC.
Anyway, I am going to buy a new PC and it is especially for gaming and for some 3D applications.
I am going to give the configuration, please give your opinions on it and how I can improve it.
Intel Core2Quad processor
DG33 FB motherboard
2*2GB RAM
250 GB hard disk
Samsung Syncmaster 732NW monitor
Logitech mouse and keyboard
Sony DVD R/W combo
Graphic card- 8800GT 512 Mb
I have a few questions;
* Do I need an external power supply for this configuration?
* Do I need any aftermarket coolers or heatsink?
* Do you think I need to make some changes in my configuration?
* Should I take 8800GT or 9600GT ( I would like to take the 8800GT )
Please go through my post and answer my questions
I will be grateful to anyone who answers.
Thanking you,
Sagar

Re: New gaming PC
1.) depends on ur SMP
2.)No really...but buying them will increase performance and the possibilty of OCing
3.)This config is good enuf (u did not mention ur proc model) ...but changes are directly proportional to the amt of cash ur willing to spend. if u've already exhausted ur resources on this config then i suggest u stick with it
4.)8800gt is anytime better performance wise but the 9x series has dx10.1 support. (i suggest u go for the 8800gt)

1) Such a great config and 17" monitor? that's really really bad. Get atleast a 19" display
a) Dell 198WFP
b) Dell 2008WFP
c) Dell 2408WFP
2) You don't need any extra cooler etc
Get atleast a 600W SMPS from Coolermaster or antec. should cost around 4k.
Get Coolermaster Elite cabinet for 1.9k
8800GT is much much better when compared to 9600GT. Go for the MSI/eVGA edition. Stay away from XFX cards.
Get Seagate 500Gb 7200.11 sata2 HDD for 4k. This one has 32Mb buffer and is blazing fast, essential for 3D designing.
For much better performance from HDD, get 2x250Gb sata2 HDD's and configure them in SATA2 RAID mode. That will nearly double the HDD performance.
As you are getting 8800GT, get the Abit IP-35E or IP-35Pro

Re: New gaming PC
^^ Since he is saying that he is going to use it for gaming and 3D applications, the RAID setup is definitely worth every penny.

4850<8800GT
and 9600GT is nothin more than a scaled down 8800GT with much less shader units. And its not DX 10.1. Even GT 200 series isn't DX10.1 ready.
So, 8800GT anyday better than 9600GT. But wait for HD 4850, which will be priced similar to 8800GT and even beats 9800GTX in some benchs.

Re: New gaming PC
^ yea
4850 > 8800GT in most of the games.check the thread in tech news section
PS - i dont know why everyone considers DX10.1 an advantage even when no DX10.1 game is to come

1) yes. get 600W SMPS
2) don't even think about xfx. MSI/ASUS/Gigabyte/EVGA/Palit
3) Get Coolermaster cabinet with coolermaster SMPS (if you can)
4) Try using Vista home premium with SP1. It should be good. If it aint good for you, get XP professional edition.
