for 1024x768 gaming, wait and get 9500GT. Should be a perfect value for money card and should cost around 5k. Stay away from XFX cards. get ASUS/MSI/Gigabyte cards.
1) 9500GT (upcoming replacement for 8600GT) 2) 8600GT (current midrange performance king) 3) ATI 2600XT (ATI's competition to 8600GT but lags behind 8600GT)

An 8600GT HD 2600XT wud keep a gud balance with ur config, and anythin better wud be a bottleneck for ur system with a Pentium D and single channel memory.
ATI's HD 3650 GDDR3 is also a gud choice bit more future proof. Both are around 4.5k ~5.5k. for nvidia dun go for XFX, everythin else are fine. For ATI, get anyone like MSI, Gecube, Sparkle etc. BTW, 2Gb dual channel wud be better than ur current 2.5Gb single channel. If u have two identical 1GB sticks, use them in dual channel nd give rest to that 512.

8600GT/HD 3650 wud run fine on an avg quality 400W PSU.
invets the 2k for a good headset or a gaming mouse like MX 518 for 1.3k. U can also get a Corsair 8GB Voyager for 1.5k. i wont recommend on goin for a 8k card like 9600Gt[cheapest one at 8.8k] coz u wont be able to utilize its performance even upto 70% with the current bottlenecks.
