Game of the year 2005

As the year 2005 comes to an end, the inevitable question comes. What is your personal opinion for the overall game PC of the year 2005 and what is the best game in each of the different genres?

My personal choice for the game of the year would be Civilization-IV 8) , although I still haven't got it , thanks to the distributors here :roll: like Milestone, Sujata Softech, Worldwide CD-Roms, etc. Perhaps they do not know that it is voted the game of the year by many websites and international magazines.

My individual choices would be:

Action: F.E.A.R. 8)
Strategy: Civilization-IV 8)
Simulation: Silent Hunter III 8) (not available here, still) :roll:

As I am not much into other genres like racing and MMORPG's and Role-playing, I cannot give personal opinions.

I think Half Life2 was released in 2004 and was the game of the year 2004.

action: prince of persia: two thrones & God of War
racing: Burnout Revenge & Gran turismo 4

I dont think this game s gonna get any awards after all the controversies.

Gamespy's best story of the year went to FEAR. Many ppl laughed at it. Letme check. Im half way thru this game.

well, most of you have mentioned F.E.A.R. With due respect to your views, for the amount of memory, CPU speed, grpahics card requirement it hogs, the immersive animations it provides is not at all justified.
Games like Half Life 2, Age of Empires 3 get my vote for the best appealing games for an avg. PC user.
For racing, NFS MW, no doubt.

For PS2,
Metal Gear Solid 3, GTA San Andreas, Resiident Evil 4

Best PS2 game of the year goes to....
GOD OF WAR (also voted as Best PS2 game by IGN)
Racing : BURNOUT REVENGE (Though there was so much hype around NFS : MW, i found it too slow when campared to BR)

and WORST PS2 game goes to...
187 RIDE OR DIE (I just put it down after playing for 5 mins !)

And i agree that Burnout Revenge is anyday better than NFS:MW. Havent played 187 - Ride or Die so cant comment.

i will give my vote to GTA: San Andreas. Love those people at Rockstar who keep making these GTA games better and better with every installment .

I really hated NFS MW. The whole pursuit thing looked boring to me esp in the lower heat levels where i had to make the police tag onto me.

Just started playing Age of Empires 3. Even though i see a lot of likeness to Warcraft 3(with the whole experience concept).. it still feels like an Age of Empires game at the core. So i will give it a thumbs up too

COD2 is definitely one of the candidates of the game of the year award, but better action games have been released this year, namely F.E.A.R. This is not to say that COD2 is bad, but it is to say that FEAR is definitely better than COD2 and deserves to be the FPS of the year. People would argue that FEAR is a system killer, but COD2 is also a system killer. Read gamespot's take on COD2 FPS rates when changing different hardware and system settings.

CoD2 has an excellent adaptation 2 hardware resources available... Its DirectX 7.0 mode is excellent for those with low end configs... On The Other Hand F.E.A.R is really a system hog. But FEAR has some of the best graphics and AI available till date on PC... the gameplay is horrifying though again u need a 7.1 Speaker setup with Creative Audigy to appreciate the sound effects (Especially in the middl of the night alone... can even knock off those with weak hearts from their chairs)..

Thus with best graphics/ best sound and best in game effects... FEAR definitely deserves to be one of the best FPS games of this year.
