GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
I had bought GTA 4 last year and have installed it just once before. Lost the installation as I had to reinstall my windows partition this year. There is not even a single scratch on my disc but it is still not being recognized. This is a legit game I got through Nextworld and I still have the box and bill with me. What are the options with me other than buying pirated DVDs of this game and using my key with it? Can I email someone and requests another disc?

1.kindly tell us which version of windows do you have.
2.What makes you think that you can get the unofficial version when you already have the official one which worked before and now also in good condition.
3.someone who?
Anyways try this
1- Click Start Menu > Run > type "regedit" and press OK to open Windows Registry Editor.
2- Go to following Address:
H_L_M\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{3d36 e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
3- In Registry menu select "Export Registry File" to make a Backup from your registry entry.
4- If there is "UpperFilters" or " LowerFilters" keys, delete them.
5- Close Windows Registry Editor and reset your Computer.
6- Go to Control Panel > click System > go to HardWare tab and click on Device Manager button.
7- In Device Manager list, click on Device marked with "?" , from Action Menu select Uninstall and press ok to uninstall device.
8- From Action menu select "Scan for hardware changes" to Scan your system and install DVD-ROM or CD-ROM.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
@quan: 1. I have Windows XP SP3 installed.
2. I have a legit DVD which seems to have gone Kaput now. I was thinking that maybe I can buy another copy and use my legit keys with it. However I remember this DVD had some really tough DRM and I had to play with the DVD in the drive. So that maybe a problem.
3. With "Someone" I was thinking about Rockstar. Lol...
BTW, I can't find "3d36 e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318" under class. There are several entries. Are these entries different on different systems?

No, but I have tried other discs in my computer and they all work fine. I guess buying the DRM-free cheap off-the-street discs is the only option for me. I already own the legit one so I guess it would be fine.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
You have the CD-key right? If yes, then there's no problem at all. DVDs just another thing is you have the CD-key. CD-key's THE thing in every game, that tiny piece of paper w/ crap-ass numbers on it costs you 999. Damn.

Yes, I have the CD key as I still have the original box and the Bill. But I guess I will have to buy the P* DVDs now.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
I did the same for my copy of Original NFS Most wanted. I think they replace it at a marginal price but that is only in the US i think.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
Maybe Rockstar will let me download the game from their server. Does anyone have their email ID?

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
@quan: Yes I tried what you instructed, but unfortunately it didn't help. Will try these DVDs in another computer and see, or will simply buy this game's P* version and install with my CD key.

well, do try it in other machines first.
Else download the ISO from somewhere and use your CD key.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
If you own the game.. getting a copy off the internet(from any site) is not a crime.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
Yeah , since you have the original key , just do as the others have said. Pirate it , but use a legit key when installing. You've already paid Rockstar .
Well, I guess it's in situations like these that STEAM really shines. Download/delete games at your leisure.

Re: GTA 4 PC Disc gone bad, what to do?
I would suggest the same thing as Vamsi and Ico, you paid for the game , now you can play the games by what ever means necessary.
