Default Eye Opener: FS2004

Hye!

The flight simulator series mostly dominated by Europeans and Americans, is slowly gaining popularity in India and many Indians have contributed to its development and design creating some truly world-class add-ons.

Take for example "MyTraffic", conceived by an Indian named Husain Bengali. Its an add-on that adds real world AI traffic, which means you're no longer flying alone in the skies. It was declared the "Best Global Add-on" at the 2002 simFlight User Awards and came close second in 2003 with its updated version. http://www.simmarket.com/online/mytraffic/

Apart from Husain, we also have plenty of other Indians who have put in a lot of effort into creating airport scenery, aircrafts, etc. Some of the addons like the work-in-progress Bangalore HAL Airport by Praveen Pillai takes months of painstaking work. http://www.infsd.com/

FS is not as difficult as you think it is. I'll be honest here, yes FS98 with its limited resources took time to learn but since the launch of FS2002, you now have videos and and your own instructor sitting beside you teaching how to fly. All that space it occupies on your HD is not going to waste. Once you've mastered the art of basic flight, the sky is your limit! All you need now is time, a good system and thirst for virtual adventure, you’re guaranteed you won't wanna let go of your joystick be it in advanced IFR flights or VFR flights for amateurs.

Below you will find screenshots I've taken over the last few months of some of those addons. Please note they have not been edited in anyway except for minor resizing adjustments.

ADDONS Used include Freeware and Payware:

Captain Sim's highly detailed legendary 727 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Intl Airport

AI PMDG 744 at DEL. Closeup of the engine and gears

At Kathmandu

En-route to Kathmandu. Unlike previous versions before FS2002, FS2004 comes with a GPS, so you'll never lose ur way

One of the most advanced cockpits in the 747. This addon(PMDG's 744) comes with a 400page manual!

Looking out from the 744 cockpit window in Los Angeles. With MyTraffic you'r never alone

Can spot the people on the beach behind the fence? At St.Maarten, Juliana in the Carribean. IFDG MD11

Cruising at 35000 ft leaving a lot of vapour train

Taking off from Athens. Ricky Sharma's MelJet 744

At Rome, Alitalia's everywhere

Air India Express in its unique livery.

At a very beautiful Cochin Int'l Aiport modeled by Praveen Pillai

Heres something interesting: How many times have you seen this image of an Indian Airlines (inside the circle) used regularly by Times of India on its front pages and articles on aviation?

Well its actually not a real photograph but a screenshot fished out without permission from a review of IFDG's Indian Airlines A320 published way back in July 2002! Heres the link to that review. http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=m...iew/iaa320.htm

Can any one tell me which is the best joystick for playing flight simulator 2004? Please also tell me its price.

I had bought some crap joystick a fewmonths ago as I was finding it difficult to play with keyboard. But I found out that the joystick was not working properly with windows XP (even if I calibrated it). It was a standard game port joystick. Will buying usb joystick help?
