Doom 3 help!

I've been playing the original Doom and got quite interested in Doom franchise. So I got Doom 3, downloaded a couple of mods. But, how to install it? Or use it? Just selecting the mods from the "Mods" in the Main Menu? Or is there any other way? Please help!

btw, saving the .pk4 files in the base folder would do.

I vaguely recall using something named as Doom 3 mod manager 5-6 years ago. Let me Google about it.

Yeah, the mods are having folders with files other than .pk4. Gotta research it more, me guess.

This game is really hard. One of the few games I used cheats and then left it. Torch + gun combination.

^^not that hard. Infact Resurrection of Evil expansion was harder but doable. Esp the 2 hell hunters, first one was easy.
