Game CRACKS
Hello everyone!
I would like to know something abt Game Cracks, i.e. Patches which allow playing the game without the CD being inserted.
Many consider it to be illegal. I would like to know the reasons for this and my argument is if we use the CD everytime we play it, won't the CD get damaged by getting scratches. By installing a crack, the only time we use the CD would be for Installing it and then store the CD in a safe place.
If the point of it being illegal is true, how do I play them without inserting the CD everytime I play the game. Please suggest software for it & also the download location.

U are talking about a no-cd patch. Many consider nocd patches as legal, but I don't know if it really is so because in most s/w agreements they say that reverse-engineering their s/w is illegal.
Other option is to make a virtual cd and store it in hdd to be mounted when required. This method saves ur cd and makes loading levels from cd much faster.

I Think as long as you have the original CD of the game and then if you use the no cd patch , then it will be legal but you should not distribute the game to your friends .
For the Softwares
i dont think we are allowed to discuss it here .

According to Microsoft, NO-CD patches violate their EULA. They offered me a replacement Disc 4 of Flight Simulator 2004 for a price, in reply to my dummy query.
Here's a lively discussion on NO-CD patches.
http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopi...t=nocd&start=0
EDIT: According to the DMCA 1998 Section 1201(f), reverse engineering (as in but not limited to NO-CD patches) is illegal. I haven't come across any such law in India. Atleast IT Act 2000, India, has no such clauses. I may be wrong, and I'd appreciate if you could prove me right or otherwise.

According to the EULA's most companies allow u to make one backup copy of the CD. So Make a backup copy of the Playdisk alone and use it as a replacement for original CD. But plaese be sure not to Distribute it to u'r Friends since doing that violate the EULA. 8)
Or u can also Use Virtual disks using Virtual CD software. Activision Doesn't permit this but i don't know of other companies. Again the same holds true u should not distribute it to u'r friends.
*cheers*

Ohh LOL this is funny.
We are not gonna play with the CD (I mean with the CD Thing itself and not using the same).. nothing will happen if we pop it in and out of your optical drives. If this is the case then many game developers could have made NO-Cd as legal thing to do.
Remember most of the original game CD/DVD play will be read well by our optical drives even though they might be scratched.

It's not legal for sure.. if we keep dicussing abt this then I will edit the posts and links snipped and thread closed. Sure some developers allow the same (no CD patch) but most of them don't.

Mr. drgrudge u may find this funny but I had lost the CD2 (i.e it just broke into more than TWO pieces)of Age of Mythology due to a fault in my CD Drive and No replacement. All this on the first time I tried to install the game. A loss of Rs. 1,000 for nothing.
This is the only reason why I had to start this thread. If you have any worthful info. Please Share it with others. I have found nothing worthful in the replies except that using the No-CD crack was illegal(in some cases as was stated).
Please give any suggestion as to how I can play games with occasional use of the original CD's.
The topic about emulators was also not given indetail. What would be the alternative if I'm low on Diskspace?

Hmm thats your problem with your CD rom and that CD has nothing to do with.
Honestly I have not coe across any cases where CD get damaged if we use it often. Yeah it will get that circles and Scratches but thats negligible and occurs only on extensive use.

Hmmm in case you want to play and enjoy playing Games, than you have no other alternative but to go for PS or Xbox or buy high capacity HDD, GFX cards and coolers
This should not be the excuse for doing illegal activities

Yes, virtual cd disclaims support for 1:1 copying of copy-protected cd/dvds.

Virtual cd is a shareware that can create a virtual cd rom drive in your computer and can copy cd/dvd into a format that can be used in that virtual drive. So basically, u don't need the original cd from of which u made an image of.
Download it from virtualcd-online.com
There are many other similar software. I use Alcohol120% from www.alcohol-soft.com
