Hi2all, Just picked up this game from Gamestop and installed it after a hectic account creation on Steam. (To be frank, I hate Steam..). Apart from that, it took a whopping ~12 GB install space. Performance-wise, the game is rock-solid, though only playing it for like 2 hrs now...running at 1680x1050, maximum quality, 16X AF/8X AA, and the game is running with an average of 80 fps with no stuttering/slowdown/glitches.. the minimum fps never went down below 65 till now. It may well be mentioned that some users did report Stuttering issues with the DEMO, but for me the DEMO ran fine and I encountered no such issues. This one is providing me much better fps compared to the DEMO. Initial Impressions: 1) The shooting/FPS controls feel awessome. The dynamics is beter than its predecessor. I knew this shooter would be great just after playing the demo once.. FYI, I tried out the demo for more than 17 times.... 2) Gore/Blood Splattering details is just frenetic.... and shooting while zooming-in creates the impression of great focus.. i.e. to say that some parts of your FOV gets automaticaaly blurred out giving a streamlined cinematic FPS experience.. I am lovin It.... MuHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! ![]() 3) Overall the graphical quality is good (better than its predecessor) but not anywhere near what some modern games possess and hence it doesn't tax the hardware much. The Lighting/Shader details are awesome at some places ... ![]() 4) The sound quality and details is just too good.... I am playing it on a Creative X-Fi Platinum coupled with a 6 channel surround sound headphones.. OK.. I am off to playing now...I will update this post with more details and screenies later... till then enjoy the screenshots.. ![]() ![]()

Is the grain effect still there?

Actually yes, but the level of "graininess" is very very low compared to the demo... and also they have incorporated the differential focusing in the FOV.
MY REVIEW: OK, finally finished the game... it was not very long though and its quite easy one too... I tried out the "Normal" difficulty but the AI was not bad, and its worth replaying the game in hard difficulty, which i will do on the weekends... Pros: as a shooter, this one is solid and brilliant, with exceptionally good gameplay mechanics, good graphical details and great presentation. Another frenetic better-than-the-original F.E.A.R experience, a must play for FPS lovers. Solid game performance.... even my 1 year old rig dishes out 80 FPS average, at maxed out details res: 1680x1050, 16X AF/8X AA,,, no stuttering, no slowdows, just pure awessomeness !!!! Cons: Storyline is not strong....not very long in terms of gameplay duration.... and its very easy at the "Normal" difficulty setting... anyways I rate this game a 8.8/10, and yeah, its definitely replayable... worth the xeperience twice... will be waiting for the next installment of F.E.A.R. A few screenies of the cool mecha .... even with a Heat Vision..

@rockthegod:Just curious about your first post, isn't steam supposed to be an online distributor of games so why did you need to make an account their after a retail purchase at Gamestop.
Does anybody buy games from online distributors like Steam(not available here), if any present/operating in India?

That's because Steam is used as a protection even in the retail copy. If I'm not mistaken it uses the steam installer to unpack itself, as the files are encrypted by steam. Similar to a back up copy one makes after downloading from the game from steam. So either way you would need a valid steam a/c to run the legit copy, downloaded or otherwise.

DRM and Copy Protection and sh1t is the only reason I am against buying original games. The same happened with my GTA4 copy. It was loaded full of bloatware and crap apps. like Rockstar Social Club and Windows Live sh1t.

D.R.M(like c.d key) might be justifiable against casual copying but they are taking things too far.
Anyway does anybody know this steam crap apply worldwide or is it exclusive to U.S of A.

Ok after a loooong search t0 buy the game I finally gave up........ its not available anywhere, and the expected date of arrivale on most of the stores is "No Idea", so what am I suppose to do...... seeing and hearing people all around me "getting" the game and enjoying........ofcourse go for the alternative (and they say buy originals.....from where???)
Anyway installed and played the game for 3 hours, I am at the 3rd round. Playing at 1440x990, all details maximum 8x AA and 8x AF and running absolutely smoothly. I have not faced any stutterring as well except may be for 10 miliseconds when the games saves at checkpoints, which is absolutely acceptable and normal. My first impression in the first 3 hours, (mind you only in the first 3 hours), less action more spooki, better graphics, superb explosions (specially at slomo) lots of more gore, infact a bit unbelievable. With a simple machine gun shots bodies fly ripping apart with blood showers every where....enjoyable Rest sound effects is awsome but I dont know if its me the sound quality was better in one (thats subective though) but I felt quality was better in the first game. Effects and soundtrack is definately better in this one. Finally I did not find that "grainy" effect everybody is mourning about. nfact in DEMO as well I did not find much of that grainy effect...... Would continue today and report more....... happy fear till then.. |

Isn't 5.1 more than enough for an average room?

I was thinking of pirating the game and suddenly NextWorld struck my mind. I signed up on their site. As it's in Delhi,I could pay by cash on delivery
They said that they'll have the game in 2 days time. So,I better wait |

nextworld......never heard?? not even on thinkdigit...its www.nextworld.in right.....well If I try to browse the site the browser gives me a wierd malware warning and does not even let me proceed......
neeway I am more in to the game now somewhere in the third interval first round, strange not many people are playing this game I thought the thread would grow like a rapid fire........anyway the thing which I want to bring in to notice is that the game sound quality really needs some tweaking, I usualy play my games at night with headphones and in this case for the first time both of my quality headphones (philips and Creative) performed utterly poor in giving the sound out put, and I was bitterly dissappointed by this. Game has an awsome track and effects but these were all so poorly delivered by both of my headphones......... to rescue came my good old sennheiser earphones (I avoide earphones for games but I had no choise in this case). sennheiser was able to get the real sound out put for this game, thats when I started REALLY enjoying the game, as with the end of Intervell 2 the game packs some really intense and gripping action (I am playing at HARD difficulty) Graphic wise clearly the explosions are far better than the first one specially at slomo, very detailed in their nature, and with the correct sound you really get the shivers once you have defeated the plethora of soldiers.........better weapons, new flame thrower this time, better grenade launching system and definately more blood and gore..... looking forward to hear more form FEAR lovers on this thread...... |

Just completed the game & happy to say that it topped the first part. I was a bit confused with the end & if there is a sequel hope they don't add a different protagonist. Overall it was a totally enriching horror FPS experience. This game actually had more outdoor environments than the first one, which made it less repetitive in terms of exploration. Too bad we only had melee combat bashing with Alma. The mech combat was the best part. It gave me a sense of being in god mode & destroying everything in my path. After adding the Catalyst 9.2 update the game ran flawlessly & also looked way sharper than before.
One complaint that I had with the game was that it was dead easy. The enemies were sneaky but adding slow-mo would have them becoming a soft target. If they could peak up the difficulty a bit more then it would be a bit challenging. It could have had bigger boss battles, something which I felt lacking in both the parts. More battle with those ghostly creatures would have been interesting as well. But it was way better than the previous part, so not much complaints there. I loved the weapons in this part. They were pretty distinct. Too bad I never used the Laser rifle. The Pulse weapon was awesome. Not to mention the addition of Napalm Cannon & Hammerhead. The gore was beefed up too. You'll see people's dead bodies scattered all over the places. Some of them mutilated badly. I'm not sure if many people noticed this, but I saw a soldier's head inside a cloth washer whilst his body lying near it. That was a freaky sight. This is a must buy title. I'm off to play the Multi-player rounds now. Another leverage to get this game.
