Mass Effect Crashing

I just started playing this game and its awesome, but its crashing randomly and making my life miserable. The crashes mostly lock up my windows and needs a hard reboot but sometimes it shows a general protection fault.

The crashes are occuring;

1.After lengthy cutscenes like the one in the beginning when the Normandy is about to land in the Citadel for the first time.

2.When landing or exiting planets in the Galaxy Map. When entering or exiting map completely and returning to Normandy or surveying planets its O.K. But when landing on, right after the cutscene the game locks up, I could still hear the audio looping but I can't alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del out of the game and need a hard reboot. Windows do not end the game as the game still 'responds' according to task manager which flashes but does not come to focus.

3.I think it has something to do with the pagefile or the sound drivers.

I need help, thanks in advance.

just install the latest patch from www.bioware.com or other.

I did, it crashes the sound system, the sounds are cut out and causes a lot of interference specially during gunshots in both HW and SW mode. I hate sh***y console ports
