Me Too.. used IE8 & FF 3.6.10

I just changed the Edit mode to normal (not WYSIWYG) and it worked perfect.

Please test and report --- need to know status post the upgrade to 3.8.6 PL1. I still can't get this error in IE or FF myself...

I only got that error once, and never again, very frustrating to try and fix something you can't reproduce

i have an idea, not sure if its gonna work. register as a new member & try create a thread. cause i seen many new users complaining that they fail to create new thread (in the HW Q&A section mainly).

OK. Something serious broke.

Are new users facing this error more than older members? If a newly registered user logs out, he or she will not be able to log back in... for some strange reason... looking into the problem. Should be able to fix it by sometime tomorrow... will post an update here.

Meanwhile, can people please test to see that the character error (now 1 character error) still occurs when posting a new thread.

+1 for this.
Install fresh vb4 with no plugin and default theme, features and settings. Use same database. Then slowly add required plugins and add new themes.

yup. this will be best way to clear all the errors (will take less time than experimenting & fixing things. Windows format style ).

if it's going to be windows format style all the useful discussions/infos will be vanished.

So it's better to take a backup first and I really save those pages which I think is useful - this saves bandwidth, precious time and help the world to be more green

BTW, if I don't post anything or browse forum pages for a long time say 1-1.30 hour and while browsing back forum pages after that long period of time - the pages loads really slow first 3-4 pages why is that ?- I use remember me setting while log in anyway so I don't have to relogin again to post something after a long period.

OK that problem is fixed, the forum is reverted to the older 3.8.4 version for now.

I think there are some problems with the database, honestly, so a "fresh" install is not an option, because it's not the PHP code that's broken. Let me have a good long look at it and see what can be done to fix it all once and for all.

As for VB4, it's still very buggy, with experts suggesting that it's sort of like upgrading to Vista from XP, so waiting a little for the "Win7" version of VB might be the best solution for us.

OK. I disabled the WYSIWYG editor for all types of input methods, and this seems to have fixed the 10-char problem.

New users who registered yesterday, and could not log in after a log-out, you can now use the forgot password button, reset your password, and then continue posting, etc.

Note: No members who registered before yesterday were affected in anyway at all, and a few cookies and a couple of lines of code were hurt in the making of this bug fix, but they were deleted in the most humane way possible.

Even after the update the full WYSIWYG editor is being an a$$, and since it basically adds very little and uses so much more RAM, I've disabled it. Hopefully I will stop hearing about this nightmare of a problem now. Look out for other bugs, and report here please...

The forum is now running the latest 3.8.X version and we should see if anything else breaks, or perhaps gets fixed.

What's next?
