can u use an sli mobo with only 1 gfx card?

If you use a single card in an SLI mobo, it will run at x16. Using two identical cards from the same manufacturer in SLI mode will make the cards run at x8 each. You can indeed run the computer on a single video card without a hitch and upgrade to another video card for SLI mode if its necessary.
