xp or vista ,secqurity?

THIS IS SERIOUS for most of us swiching to vista comes to the point to which level we can gain,it 's secondary secqurity is the focous. xp is notorious for not having much in the department as that of linux or vista.it incorporates a basic line of defence. the q is how much we can gain inspite of loosing something rthat we take benfit of?
