Default Little known / forgotten things. Share which ones you know

Looking at some Tamil Map's thread, it suddenly struck me that somewhere I had overheard that when it was being decided about our National language, Tamil was one of the contenders and it lost to Hindi by only 1 vote! (in the parliament, I guess)

I tried looking for this information, but in vain. Is it true? Can someone point out to some source?

And while we are at it, let this thread be a place to discuss, clarify, share, and debate such little known / forgotten things.

Cheers,
Bandu.

There is NO such thing as a national language in India. Only official language here. Hence English and Hindi have the same status in Indian Constitution

Hindi can never replace English in India.
Infact no language can, EVER.
