I prefer OpenOffice. It is the best for home users and free also. MS Office is too costly and also closed source.

The new OpenOffice 3 will have lots of new features to compete against MS Office.

Now The main problem with MS Office is the price and that with OOo is its lousy speed.
Used to use OOo1.1.5 till sometime back
As of now i need only Word processor and Spreadsheet, my work is done by Ashampoo Office provided by Digit.

Abiword at home and Word 2003 at work.
Abiword does all the word processing i need and is a lot lighter than OpenOffice.

use what ever u want, don't create such stupid threads. 1 is free the other costs. if you have the money go buy, else use OOo. It is better that this thread is locked now rather than later after OOo is pwned

If you talk in term in features than ,well, nothing can even come remotely closed to MS Office. Its the most perfect Office package we have and its getting better with every release. When you talk in terms of money, well, What can I say. As iMav already said ,One is Free and other is paid.(don't ask me which one's which). No point in comparing.

That's not the question. In that case thieves don't pay for anything anywhere.

^ I think this is a fight club question rather than chit chat first as at 1 point, ppl r going to start fighting.
And the other thing is, there has been really really strange threads which has nothing to do with software or computers even remotely to the point that a discussion or fight related to software (no matter how relevant or useful it is) is now stupid.
Not to blame iMav.

^^So does that mean no one has the right to ask it?

It's a forum and what does a forum mean? Why do people try to act like a mod? Just report it if you dont want it.

My apologies for calling the thread stupid. If it makes sense to you, I am no 1 to make such comments. My apologies, please carry on with your discussion of which is a better Office Suite.

You got me wrong, Manan. You atleast gave a reason that one is paid with excellent features & the other one is free & lacks what MS Office has.
I am amazed by the mod's response. He says its stupid & then people start putting +1 to that post. If you got nothing to reply about the post then don't reply. If you think thread shouldn't be there, report it.
You got no freedom to post at this place? This isn't some thread which has spam or anything like that.

I was never into OpenOffice but for it's cost (or rather... the lack of it )

But I really hope the OO guyz spruce up the interface.... like MS did for O2k7... ribbon style.... that would raise OO to a real MS competitor.

Anyway.. those guyz r doin great work by givin us a suitable MS competitor for free... my marks to them, for sure (even if my heart is in MS O2k7)

use bhi 1 nahi hai

aisa dekh: MS Office ko mostly offices use karthe hai kyonki unko aur kutch patha nahi hai. Aur micrashaft ke chamche aur ve log jo aur kutch dekhe nahi hai bhi use karthe hai. Those who love eye-candy also use it.

Lekin OpenOffice alag hai. Sirf ve log jo enthusiasts hai, aur ve log jo office suits ke bare me research kar chuke hai, ve hi OpenOffice use karthe hai.
