hi guys my current sys config is as below,
AMD ATHLON 64 2800+
MSI VIA MOTHERBOARD (dont remem model num, with one agp slot n 2 RAM slots, no pci-e slot)
1 gb DDR
On Board grafix
160 GB SATA

i want to use WIN VISTA(never used it) with all AERO effects and also wanna load UBUNTU 7.1..

Shall i go for a AGP grafix card like geforce 6600 or go for a mobo upgrde only or mobo+processor upgrade????

pls suggest me guys...my budget is 7k....

Evything in ur system seems to be a bottleneck..
btw yea get a mobo+proccy+ram upgrade/

You can try it. But it will be hard to say that it will work or not. Post ur experience further...

You need to upgrade your pc.
collect as much money as you can now, and go for a config that will be set for atleast 3-4 years.(IF you are a gammer then you need to buy the latest).
I am using Vista with AERO(orginal vista), you are not missing anything. infact you are better off with XP pro. you can get almost the same effect in XP with many third party tools.


so wait and save as much as you can.

i am not sure if you can get AERO itself but you can get something like that or sometimes better effects that AERO.

this software will help you to get some really nice themes.
and this site you will get downloadable themes.

What about just installin a geforce 6600, 'll it boost something up guys? How much 'll it cost me?

for your config it seems that a 6600 will be good, any higher card will bottleneck furthur.

as i said save money for a better and over all upgrade.
i have about Rs10000+10-12K for my old pc. i can buy a nice one to play all the latest games easily at 1024*768 res with 4x AA and 2x AF. but i am not buying as of now, i think the prises will fall and i will be able to save some more money, which should set me up for the next 4 years easily.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, just play fifa, need for speed etc, i think 6600 will be sufficient for playing fifa08 n nfs carbon,and the latest one i guess, right?
