Default Help with Home Theater!

I recently purchased Sony Home Theatre! Person who installed it told me that if I want to connect the surround system to the TV and not to the DVD Player I need a special wire. I was wondering if its possible for us to get Surround System if we connect the TV to the Surround System without the DVD player in between, like say if we watch some Movie channel on our cable TV. Do we need to have some special kind of Cable reception like digital or any high end thing to get Home Surround ?

Friends I need some info! Please Help!

May be he was refering to the 5.1 channel.yes since most tv output are 2 channel they do need special converter..why do plug surround to tv?

Even in dish yöü get max of 2 channels...of audio...
Anyway i am not specialist ..may be someone here will help ya.
Next time post it in q & a section

You are right! Even lot of TV channels are still in Mono and I didnt see any TV with 5.1 out!!! But its possible to get 5.1 out from Stereo using ProLogic/Matrix Decoders.

And you dont need any special cables for 5.1 audio, just use 6 RCA Male-Female Plugs.

If your Surround system has inbuild Pro-logic/matrix/Neo Decoder, you can connect the stereo out of your TV to the Stereo Input of your sound system (Again its not 5.1 input)

I heard sky & MHD are broadcasting DolbyDigital HD movies, but its not in India. If you are using sky, you can use the optical/digital out of your TV to get 5.1

Friends, I need more info on this! I want to connect my Home Theatre to my TV so that I can have the sound output from the 5.1 system for watching Cable TV channels. Can someone give me more details about this? What type of wire I should buy and how to connect?

First of all, what kind of speakers do you have? What TV do you have? What kind of TV reception to you have (cable or satellite). What DVD player is it. Only then could one help you properly...
