@sg1:BTW,I doubt any branded computers of seperate OS and H/W before PC revolution that are found in EU or USA to be owned by many in India .here assembled PCs made people realize computer although few brands exists 10 yrs back too.
mine was a assembled computer on 2001:
celeron 1ghz
128MB RAM
mercury 810e board
samsung keyboard and mouse
40GB samsung hdd
15" samtron monitor(which still i use with my new system)

its the one in my sign .. it still works & rocks !! i do a lot of 4-5 hour Xvid conversion !!! & it runs like a charm

Around June 2000

Initial Config:

Intel Celeron 533 MHz
Mercury 810e MoBo
8 GB Seagate HDD
32 MB RAM
48x CD ROM Drive, 1.44MB FDD
ATX Cabinet
Samsung 45Bn 14" Monitor
Win '98

Later upgraded at various stages to 256MB RAM, 20GB Seagate HDD, a Network Adapter and no Optical Drive.

AFAICR.This was my first rig.
Used to run win 95 with ease

i purchased PC on Dec. 2001


specification :
Intel Celeron 850MHz processor
Mercury made Intel 810e chipset motherboard
256 MB SD RAM
20 GB Samsung HDD
52X samsung CDROM
Samsung Samtron 56V monitor (15 inch)
Labtec 2.1 speaker
After 1 year i also purchased 1 Samsung CDRW and a Pinnacle PCTV
still using it.....

Matrox Millenium G200 with 8 MB 3D Card
Some Asus Mobo I think cant rembember exact.
LG StudioWorks 15" [Which I still Use and really cool on eyes]
20 GB HDD [Which was kinda huge in view of my friends as 8 GB was Norm that time]

In 2000 (I was 10),

Intel P3 700Mhz
64 MB RAM
10 GB HDD
Logitech Internet Keyboard (I broke it in weeks o_o)
Samsung Samtron Monitor (Still use it)
Some ancient device called a Floppy Drive~
w/ Windows 98 - Pirated Edition

It came with this game called speedkar. for the first couple weeks, playing that was all I did on the computer.

MOBO Mercury 815e
HDD 20 GB(think it was Seagate).
Monitor Samsung 15"
KeyBoard do not remeber
Mouse i think it was logitech or samsung.
ups APC 500VA(still in use, once changed the battery)
spikebuster softree(still in use, once changed the fuse)

the price?? paid 40,000 odd.(or that is what i remember)

I purchased it in 2K/2K1 and its still going strong. Only got its PSU + KB replaced in the very first year.

Mine was a CeleroA 400Mhz,
VIA Chipset
256 MB Ram (later upgraded another 512)
15" Smatron 55E Monitor
8GB Weston Digital HDD which crashed so later boutght a Samsung 20GB at the same price!
SIS 6323 VGA card later with 8MB RAM upgraded to ASUS Vanta Card with 128MB onboard RAM
Upgraeded with IDE to USB Card
Used with XP for over a year then just lost it somewhere in transportation from

First computer I worked on (in school) had the following config:

8088 4.77Mhz
CGA monitor (green)
2 x 360kb 5 1/4" FDD
No Hard disk

I still remember booting up MS DOS 4.01 from those clumsy and unreliable floppy disks. Surely It's been a loooong time (was 1991)

My first personal PC (hand down PC from my uncle's office - in 1994) was

80286 16Mhz
1.2MB 5 1/4" FDD
40MB Seagate HDD
1MB RAM (640K base + 384k extended)
CGA monitor

Phew....I feel so old
