My speed with wireless broadband here in USA
I recently came to US for some official work. My hotel provides me with wireless unlimited access to internet. This is the speed I got using the hotel's wireless internet.
This is the result from speedtest (www.speedtest.net): (speeds vary, this will definitely increase during the night)
Please don't blast me saying that I created an useless thread. Well this is chit chat, a section for useless threads.  This is a far-cry from the speeds I got back in India so I am thrilled. 
You may say BSNL is providing access with speeds upto 2MBps but that is not unlimited. This is unlimited.
Pity this is a work laptop so I can't install P2P software on it. . But as soon as I get one blazing Dell XPS/Gateway/Asus/Alienware (too expensive  )/ gaming laptop for personal use, I can you know what. . Sony Vaio laptops are not for gaming.

Hold your horses, what do you mean you can't install. If you do not have admin rights use uTorrent (zipped file). Just extract and launch the exe file

Ehh...Mine isn't that fast, but I have a screenshot somewhere where recorded a download speed of approx 650 kilobytes per second for a Linux ISO download. I'll have to see if I can find it.
And what is the rated speed of the connection?? The connection in my university is 54000 kbps...or 54 Mbps...

Hey... I think thats the max speed for wireless LAN 802.11 b/g. Which is what I have. But what internet speed do you get?

yeah thats the limiting speed of 802.11G. for actual speed, roughly add about 128KBps over the 650KBps and multiply by 8.

@aditya.shevade: I've personally seen a download speed of 650-660 kilobytes per second...a 700 MB ISO file downloaded in roughly half an hour or thereabouts...

Mine's free too. As I said, wireless access is provided by the hotel.

Hey party's going to last till 12th october when I board the plane back to India. But I am going back with my wife in mid-november. Then I will have ~1Mbps speeds again.

if that speedtest is showing in kbits per second, then I'm not impressed. I would expect someone in the US to get at least a 10mbps connection...

Oh hey btw...I finally managed to get my internet connection also tested at SpeedTest.net ...

Oh yeah, and this is NOT the internet connection in my University...its just the wired connection of 3500 kbps I bought for my use at home. The one in our University is WAY faster than this...

the actual net speed is not that impressive, coz i get better speeds from home 500 plan on bsnl! but the killer deal is that its unlimited and its wireless!!
